FAQ - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DOES OIL BYPASS AFFECT OIL PRESSURE?

The CAF oil purifier does not affect oil pressure at all, the pressure will not increase or decrease whatsoever.  This can be seen by turning the oil flow on and off to the purifier and watching the oil pressure stay the same.

DOES OIL BYPASS AFFECT OIL FLOW?

The CAF-15 oil purifier is designed to flow 1/2 gallon per minute, or roughly 1% of the total oil flow to the engine.  This is well within OEM recommendations of max 5 GPM oil flow to any oil bypass system.  A half gallon per minute purifies 30 gallons per hour, or 10 gallons 3 times over.

WHEN SHOULD I CHANGE MY BYPASS ELEMENT?

Depending on the engine, oil and work load, the duty cycle of each operator varies.  On average our CAF-1501 one micron element gets changed every 15-25,000 miles.  When first starting with the oil purifier, we recommend more frequent filter changes to get the engine clean.

DOES OIL BYPASS WORK WITH SYNTHETIC OILS?

The CAF line of oil purifier systems are designed to work with any oil type and viscosity, including base stocks from crude, synthetic and bio-based sources.  Our applications include engine oil, hydraulic fluid, transmission fluid, diesel fuel, gear oil, and other various lubricants.

How DOES THE PROGRAM EFFECT MY WARRANTY?

When used as directed, the CAF program will not void any manufacturer warranty.  This has been mandated by the Federal Trade Commission regarding the Magnuson Moss Warranty act, that no original equipment manufacturer can void a warranty simply based on the use of an aftermarket product.

DOES OIL BYPASS REMOVE ADDITIVES FROM OIL?

Additives used in oil are liquid soluble with the base oil, and therefore are not solid particles, they are chemical compounds that are much smaller than 1 micron in size. Our one micron absolute filter element will not remove liquid soluble additive compounds from the oil.

HOW MANY MILES CAN I RUN MY OIL WITH A PURIFIER?

Our oil purifier is designed to remove all solid contaminants down to 1 micron absolute at 99.98% efficiency.  By keeping the oil cleaner, we have proven that the particle counts are lower with more than double the miles on the oil.  We only recommend extended oil changes with verified 3rd party oil sampling.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BYPASS AND SPIN ON?

Spin-On Full Flow filters are only rated at 25 to 30 micron due to the volume of oil flow that passes through them, at an average rate of 50 to 60 gallons per minute.  Due to high flow the filter media can’t go tighter than 25 micron for engine oil.  The CAF oil purifier only flows 1/2 GPM allowing to pass through much tighter 1 micron media.
